The 220 years Haiti Independance day celebration in Winnipeg organized by RDHM

On January 6th 2024, we honored the memory of our ancestors as we celebrated the 220th anniversary of Haiti's national independence. It was a joy to have you all join us as we came together in unity around the principles of Liberty, Equality, and Fraternity for All, which are deeply ingrained in Haiti's national identity. We extend our heartfelt thanks to our speakers, partners, and members for their invaluable contributions to making the day truly special. This event was organized by Suzanne Chrispin, Director of Special projects at RDHM.



Here's a recap of Januay 6th 2024 event:

  • 11:00 am: Guests enjoyed a coffee service to kick off the event.

  • 11:15 am: Ms. Angela Cassie, our Master of Ceremony, opened the event with enthusiasm.

  • 11:20 am: Honorable Glen Simard greeted attendees and acknowledged the land.

  • 11:30 am: Mr. Michael Pierre, a respected community leader, conducted traditional Indigenous ceremonies.

  • 11:45 am: Councilor Markus Chambers, Acting Deputy Mayor of Winnipeg, delivered inspiring remarks.

  • 12:00 pm: Honorable Deputy Premier Minister Asagwara Uzoma spoke eloquently on the values of Equality and Fraternity.

  • 12:15 pm: The Right Honorable Michaëlle Jean, Canada's 27th Governor General, shared reflections on the significance of Haiti's 220 years of independence.

  • 12:40 pm: Attendees stood for the Haitian and Canadian National Anthems.

  • 12:45 pm: A brief break was taken to refresh and recharge.

  • 1:00 pm: Attendees gained insights into the founding members and former presidents of RDHM.

  • 1:15 pm: A message was delivered by Bathelemy Bolivar.

  • 1:30 pm: Carla Fleury-Charles shared her thoughts and perspectives.

  • 1:45 pm: Michelle Jean Paul conveyed a meaningful message.

  • 2:00 pm: Attendees engaged in audience participation with entertaining games.

  • 2:30 pm: The Mistress of Ceremonies concluded the event with a heartfelt closing message.

  • 2:30 pm: Attendees enjoyed a serving of Soup Joumou.

  • Networking opportunities were available until 4:00 pm, allowing for further connections and conversations.
